@unfa i abandoned it mid-last year. the two things it had going for it [one actual, one promised], they later abandoned ( #webpanels , #treestyletabs). its terrible random habit of losing all tabs on restart [peeps complaining for well over a year of it], & then the Dev's initially just idiosyncratic UI design concept warping into simply silly, then entirely killed it for me.

Floorp Daylight aka Floorp 12 Beta, Version 138.0.2@0.1.21 as available 11 hours ago at https://github.com/Floorp-Projects/Floorp-12/releases/tag/beta, has made a major jump forward in features & reliability.

• Now its #Workspaces seem to work, and survive restarts [older Betas failed on one or both of those]
• it now has native #MouseGestures and they work [so i can remove #Gesturefy]
• its native #WebPanels #Sidebar is less powerful than the #FirefoxSecondSidebar project, but is still excellent & highly usable
• its internal special Floorp settings page, now called Floorp Hub, has regained several [albeit certainly not all] of the fab #Floorp11 UI options

Atm the native #Firefox #TabGroups do not respect Workspaces, ie, persist across all of them, unlike ordinary tabs which now do stay in their respective WS. Thus my next focus of interest will be to see if coming Betas manage to fully integrate these Groups into the Workspaces.

TLDR: This latest Beta is such that i can now seriously consider the possibility of using it as more than just a curiosity, & as an actual daily browser.

@fnwbr And yet, here i be, revelling in the delightful UX that is my :firefox_nightly: , with all the #telemetry disabled, the #AI disabled, numerous other parameters hardened via my #userJS, with the exquisite #Sidebery & its infinitely-nestable tree-tabs & multiple #Workspaces on its LHS, & the brilliant project #FirefoxSecondSidebar with my 21 #WebPanels on its RHS. It's such a great daily browsing UX, unfazed by the last ten days of global #FUD [all the so-called nasties can be disabled, either via simple clicks in the Settings UI, or otherwise via about:config / user.js]. * the Zen subreddit is full of users posting that Zen spontaneously lost all their tabs, or all their pinned tabs, or all their unpinned tabs. In my own past months of using Zen with its native #Workspaces & tabs, it also happened to me, twice, & it is most exasperating.

Turn Extension pop-out dialogs into Web Panels.

Some Extension dialogs can be quite complex. To make using them easier, you can convert the pop-out dialogs into Web Panels.

To add an extension to Web Panels:

1. Install an extension from Chrome Web Store.
2. Click on it on the Address Bar to open its pop-out dialog.
3. Right-click on the dialog.
4. Select “Add Page to Web Panel” form the context menu.
5. If needed, adjust the width of the panel.

It’s not guaranteed to work with all extensions, but most should behave just fine.

@dec_hl There is so sooooooooo much bullshit, #FUD & outright lies being spread about #Firefox lately. Don't want #AI in it? Fine, simply keep the setting disabled [as i do]. Don't want to be involved in the weirdarse ads thing mozilla did a few months ago? Fine, also keep that setting disabled [as i do]. Maybe Firefox will cease to be if gargle is forced to stop funding Firefox Search? Ok, if/when that happens, it would be time to find another browser, but it has not happened yet & might not happen at all, so running away screaming with hands waving in the air now, as many seem to advocate, is stupid.

My daily browsing experience continues to be magnificent with :firefox_nightly: #FirefoxNightly + #Sidebery + #uBlockOrigin + #FirefoxSecondSidebar [for #WebPanels].

:floorp: #Floorp 11 was nice to use for a while, but its replacement 12 is months late with minimal public info easily found.

:zenbrowser: #ZenBrowser recently progressed from Alpha to Beta status, but i stopped using it several weeks ago in frustration at the wild swings in browser design the Dev keeps trying. Certainly though it will be worthwhile revisiting once it reaches Stable phase.

Personally i will never ever use Chrome under any circumstances, only occasionally launch Chromium under sufferance, abandoned Vivaldi a couple of years ago, & also dislike Brave... so if the day does ever arise when FF is no more, the remaining choice will be odious indeed.

Reopen closed Web Panels instead of adding them again.

Adding new Web Panels is pretty straightforward in Vivaldi, but when it’s a Web Panel you’ve already had on your browser’s sidebar, it’s even easier to restore it.

To reopen a Web Panel:

1. Right-click on one of the Panel buttons.
2. Select “Closed Web Panels”.
3. Click on the closed Web Panel you want to add back to the sidebar.

Years ago Opera Presto, then later Vivaldi, switched me onto the substantial browser usability improvements from a dedicated second sidebar incorporating customisable #WebPanels. Sadly, eventually, it became too hard to keep faith with the Vivaldi project for numerous design reasons. #FirefoxNightly :firefox_nightly: with #Sidebery became my new home instead, despite lacking that extra sidebar. Much more recently, #Floorp :floorp: crossed my radar, replete with a Vivaldi-esque WP sidebar, & i was smitten. It does, however, have some issues i dislike, but i tolerated them for the overall good. Then #ZenBrowser :zenbrowser: arrived, & i had a new love, albeit its unusual WP implementation is less convenient than it should be. Atm both :floorp: & :zenbrowser: seem to be heading in design directions less attractive to me, so the age-old quandary continued. Then, a few days ago, i serendipitously stumbled onto this fab project https://github.com/aminought/firefox-second-sidebar, & now i'm as happy as a porcine creature in biological byproduct... :firefox_nightly: with a dedicated second sidebar incorporating customisable #WebPanels. 🎉 🥳 👯‍♀️

Create Keyboard Shortcuts for opening and closings individual Web Panels.

Keyboard Shortcuts are excellent for opening and closing Web Panels for a quick glance. But before you toggle Web Panels with Keyboard Shortcuts, you need to assign each panel its unique shortcut.

To add Keyboard Shortcuts:

1. Go to Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts > View.
2. Find the command “Web Panel 1”.
3. Click in the box next to it.
4. Press the keys you want to use for the shortcut on your keyboard.
5. Repeat with other Web Panels.

Then whenever you want to open one of the web panels just use the shortcut for both opening and closing the panel. If you already have one open, the shortcut will switch focus to the one you need.

Web Panels show you the mobile view of a web page. Some websites show pages on mobile much differently than on desktop or don’t even let you use some of the site’s functionality. Don’t let this stop you! Simply click on the “Switch to Desktop/Mobile View” button at the top of the panel and get to the content you’re after.

Web Panels are great for taking a quick glance at a website, but occasionally the mobile-sized view may not be enough. In that case, you can open the current page you have open in the Web Panel in a tab instead.

To open a Web Panel in a tab:

1. Right-click on the Web Panel’s icon on the sidebar.
2. From the menu, select “Open In” and where you want to open the tab:
   • New Tab,
   • Background Tab,
   • Current Tab,
   • New Window,
   • New Private Window.

However to be serious, i'd offer these thoughts [only a sample]:

• ongoing existence of #Firefox helps forestall an otherwise browser-engine total monoculture
• container tabs
• cookie management
• #uBlockOrigin already works better in FF than chromium, & coming later this year, google will break uBO entirely.
• [though i sincerely wish this functionality was native within FF] chromium browsers have no equivalent to either #TreeStyleTab nor #Sidebery #AddOns, which provide [both, but especially the latter] the most sophisticated granular tabs management of all browsers

EDITED to add:

The existence of #Firefox means the existence of :firefox:​ forks, a marvellous example of which is :floorp:​ #Floorp. This still has all the benefits of vanilla :firefox:​ [#albeit, #ESR in this case], but adds multiple excellent bells & whistles. I avail myself of many of these enhancements, but IMO THE most notable one is its Vivaldi-esque dedicated side-panel with configurable #WebPanels.

Opinion.

The fully independent [of the default #Firefox #sidebar] #sidepanel with customisable #WebPanels, of #Floorp :floorp:​, just like in :vivaldi_browser:​ before it, & Opera Presto before that, is absolutely stunningly transformational of one's browsing UX. There's simply no going back, once entranced by its productivity boost, to mere garden-variety browsers that lack it.

Left or right? Choose a side for your Panels.

With Vivaldi’s highly customizable user interface, you can move toolbars around as you like. The Panels Toolbar, hosting your Bookmarks, Downloads, Notes, Web Panels and more can be located either on the left or right side of the browser window. Especially when you prefer vertical Tabs (see Tip #204), you need to think about whether you want to have Tabs and Panels on either side of the window or both on the same side.

To move Panels:

1. Go to Settings > Panels > Panel Position.
2. Choose either Left or Right.
