I wanted to use French Ultramarine for another wintery Atmospheric Landscape Painting. It's complemented by Quinacridone Magenta. I used a little salt to get a frosty effect.

A Quick Photo Walk in the Snow

This morning, as I drove towards the shops I noticed that the Jura was covered in snow, but I also noticed that the trees looked nice and wintery. For this reason, rather than driving to the shops directly I took a detour to the foot of the Jura, got out of the car and walked for a bit.

My reason for walking a short distance, rather than a long distance was that I wasn't equipped with the right shoes, or the right hat, and I had little to keep my neck and face warm.

Having said this, it was the right decision. By going up straight after it snowed, it meant that the snow had not had time to fall from the trees. It was still covering the branches, making it look like a winterscape.

I could hear it fall onto the roof of the car in batches, but it's relatively light so I didn't worry. I did park so that I set off downhill, rather than uphill, when it was time to head to the shops.

I walked along the road for a bit, turned around, and then I walked up a trail, and then followed it for a bit before turning around and following another one. I wasn't equipped for these conditions.

This is a good reason to keep a spare winter hat, gloves and scarf in the car. It also makes sense to keep hiking boots in the car. In future, in such a situation, if I have everything in the car. I can spontaneously enjoy unusual conditions without worrying about soaked feet or a cold head.

And Finally

It's very easy to see the view I saw this morning, from afar, and think "I'll go later" but in going later we miss the beauty of fresh snow on tree branches. We often go up once it has melted and fallen. I didn't make that mistake today. I went up when it was nice to go up.
