#555Timer

New video (also the final one for this year)! I found a strange Hi-Fi component on the side of the road and am taking a closer look at it.

Built my first little 555 astable timer today ⏱️⚡
Just a humble LED blinker, but it feels like magic when the circuit comes alive.
Maybe this is the start of my journey into electronics and 8-bit retro computing.

Making a Simple 555 Based Logic Probe

New video! I'm building a simple 555 timer based logic probe from spare parts I had laying around.

Thumbnail for my video. A self-made logic probe in a black project enclosure on my workbench. A red probe from a cheap multimeter is connected to the box which has a green "high" LED and a red "Low" LED plus a switch that is labelled "TTL". In the background, there's the edge of a circuit board which the logic probe is connected to. The overlayed text reads "DIY Logic Probe".

The book shop has a magazine on sale from 2022. Not sure whether it's a reprint but I'm awfully tempted to buy it because of an article about the NE555.

The Eurorack ADSR PCBs are now available, more details and schematics on my website polykit.rocks/adsr

Huge NE555N chip. It's as big as someone's chest.

After some minor adjustments, I now transferred it onto a soldered #perfboard.

the finished board. there are four potentiometers at the bottom edge, labeled "Attack", "Decay", "Sustain", and "Release". the power connector is at the top left corner, and there are two sets of two pin pinheaders underneath, with labels "Gate", and "Out" at the left edge. a red LED is directly below the Out pins. in the middle there are the two 8-pin ICs LM358 and NE555.the back side of the board showing the solderingthe board connected to the power source and with attached oscilloscope showing the output of a short and a longer button press. the four phases can be clearly identified on the screen.

@bigzaphod Haven't seen the video but I first got to potch with them in 1988 and I still think they're worthy of investigation, experimentation and use.

Now YouTube is recommending to me every electronics project video showing how to make your own USB powerbank "Keep Alive" circuit

#prototyping an #ADSR #envelope generator on a solderless #breadboard for my #diysynth experiments. I used René Schmitz' design as reference, but using a #bipolar #NE555 instead of the required #CMOS variant, since I didn't have any of those.
I captured the output using my cheap #oscilloscope and used a simple push button.
It seems to work fine, though. I can live with the higher power usage.
Next step: transfer it to a soldered perfboard.

the finished circuit on the solderless breadboard. for the input, I used a push button to test it.photo of the oscilloscope capturing the output of the circuit after pushing the button for a while. you can clearly see the four phases for attack, decay, sustain, and release.
