And of course if possible you want to let the user choose arbitrary inter-particle spacings, possibly at runtime. This is e.g. the reason why #GPUSPH has a built-in simple #CSG (#ConstructiveSolidGeometry) system: it's not needed for #SPH, but it allows user to set up test cases even with relatively complex geometries without resorting to external preprocessing stages that wouldn't give the same flexibility in term of resolution choices.

And here's the thing: the CSG in GPUSPH has a *lot* of room for improvement, but it's not really the “core” of GPUSPH: how much developer time should be dedicated to it, especially considering that the number of developers is small, and most have more competences in the mathematical and physical aspects of SPH rather than in CSG?

BTW, learned today (via experience) that:

let `p = PlaneMesh.new()`

Then, distort the verts of p. Like pull some up.

1. Assign to a CSG node csg.mesh = p : will display that plane mesh in low-poly style.

2. Assign to a MeshInstance3d.mesh = p : will display the mesh in smoothed-normals style.

There's different routes through the rendering internals of CSG and MeshInstance!

The latest Water Technical Advisory Group meeting minutes on the Santos website are terrifying. Santos is walking further away from its commitment to monitor groundwater in the #Pilliga and the experts seem to be allowing this to happen. How can cumulative impact on groundwater be assessed when monitoring is so weak? Randall Cox from OGIA is not concerned.

A mate moved to Wieambilla, I was checking out their new town in Google Maps – and noticed all these drilling pads in close proximity to each other.
I have not worked as a geologist in Australia for 20+ years, so was not sure of the reason for them.
Looks like they are related to coal seam gas (CSG) mining, aka methane - and drilled before the ready advent of horizontal / drilling drilling (or cheaper to throw in a bunch of old school wells.)
The PhD submission linked above, although older, gave some good background.
It is a very distinct set of features on the landscape – and brought back a lot of memories of a variety of previous professional ‘lives.’

Depuis que la sécurité sociale rembourse les frais à 100%, on a supprimé les mutuelles (celles qui sont moins efficaces que la sécurité sociale et qui se permettent quand même de ne pas rembourser les dents). Les cotisations ont augmenté dans l'absolue mais avec la suppression de la CSG et la progressivité, un meilleurs équilibre a été trouvé. De plus, les dépenses ont baissé.

The BALMAN mission was successfully performed today. At 4:00 UTC, the balloon was launched from the observation point "Colibri" near the Ariane 6 launch pad of the Centre Spatial Guyanaise in Kourou.

After reaching an altitude of 17.8 km the mission was terminated and the balloon impacted in the Atlantic Ocean, 42 km NE of Kourou.

The total flight time was 3 hours.
