I've been using #kdenlive for ages and I love it. I've also been trying to compile #davinciresolve for months. I eventually get bored and I'm not there to hit "y" to continue the process as it takes 4 hours to compile on my machine.

Some notes:
- I was not expecting to find this festival, but it was sure welcome! It was fun; everyone was having a good time.

- It's the first video I've published taken with an #Insta360. I plan to do more, including straight up 360 videos.

- #KdenLive has filters to work with the video files made with an Insta 360, but they're real stone knives and bear skins level stuff. It WORKS, but... easily your last resort.

- Insta360 Studio (a Windows app provided by Insta360) works well with #Wine, and is what I used here to create this video.

- The Insta360 exposes the contents of the SD card when you mount it. You get two files per recording, both ISO Media, MPEG v4 system, 3GPP JVT AVC: an LRV file (a low res preview), and an INSV file that contains two video streams for each lens (forward/backward) along with gyro data, I think.

- This is right out of the camera with no retouching by me. (!) Though as I understand it you can set it to a Log mode and get raw footage.

OK the bad news is that I've completely bolloxed up the project file. The good news is I think I know what I did wrong this time.

My adventures in #Kdenlive continue. I have figured out how to do a simple pan and zoom effect while pausing on a single frame. Now I just need to figure out how to make it not look like hot garbage.

This would probably be easier to figure out if I didn't, ironically, hate watching instructional videos.

I just edited a video in #KDEnlive for the first time in 5 or 6 years, and wow, what a nice piece of free software!

Now it can even generate subtitles (with many errors unfortunately) using a local speech recognition model and use NVENC to encode videos.

I found something shocking tonight on #kdenlive. It really shows if an app is thought out well or not.

So, when you go fullscreen, it's not really fullscreen, due to the play bar at the bottom. So when you have a 1080p video on 1080p monitor fullscreen, it's never 1:1. This is a major no-no for professional work due to the softness of the resizing algorithm.

As for #Shotcut, it has no multi-monitor support anymore & doesn't have fullscreen at all.

Well... I am an aspiring filmmaker. One of my advocacies is that I encourage digital artists of all kinds to consider switching to #FOSS.

For me, I find that #kdenlive gives the most amount of control over the footage, especially when working with 10bit LOG files or when I need some effects.

This isn't to say that shotcut isn't good. I think it's perfect for most users who want a simple editing software.

What about you? Any experiences you'd like to share?

Not a fan of the concept of #Resolve using a database compared to other programs like Kdenlive and Premiere just having files loose wherever you want to put them. This, in effect, makes it so it's harder for me to backup my project files and I can't just have a program like dotbakker to copy the file and add dot bak and a number according to how many copies of that file are in that folder. Before writing that, I would manually copy, paste, and rename files.
