#Lenovo #P50 mein treustes Schlachtross mit Windows! Wird aber wohl auf Linux Ubuntu umgestellt. Lightroom ist langsam ohne Ende, läuft wohl sehr auf dem Prozessor als im RAM

Weil 64GB RAM hat der Bro, 3,21GHZ Prozessor

ThinkPad and Linux question:

Is the NVIDIA Quadro M1000M graphics in the ThinkPad P50 laptop useful at all with Linux?

Laptop has a pretty powerful i7 processor, but not officially supported by Windows 11 and the NVIDIA Quadro M1000M graphics has also been discontinued from support by nVidia (not sure what that means).

... so will it work okay with Linux ?

Only one way to find out, but thought I'd throw the question out here.

More #laptop surgery tonight - lower buttons below #trackpad on #Thinkpad #P50 were goosed (left button stuck on, causing all sorts of strangeness, which even upset trackpoint and top buttons) - replaced with another set

A bear of a job as keyboard has to come out, as well as part of bezel around it (I was able to carry out the repair without removing whole thing), dozens of small screws, multiple small connectors must be disconnected and then there is just 4mm of ribbon cable to get into exactly the right spot (again had to use big LED desklamp and wear +1,00 spectacles to see as my contacts correct me for long distant vision, with age I have presbyopia )

At least the surgery was successful, as I'm typing this toot on the laptop with a working trackpad *and* trackpoint..

Lower trackpad buttons of Thinkpad P50, the old set has been hauled out and replaced (the left hand button is shiny due to wear)

Replaced sub-par aftermarket #Thinkpad #P50 keyboard (keycaps not secure and regularly falling off, particularly the large shift key)

Had to wear +1,00 #spectacles to see the tiny ribbon cable connectors on the motherboard well enough to get the cable into position👴🏽 👓

This generic Chinese remanufactured one, bought from EBay and shipped from a random part of London seems quite decent (feels more solid and similar to the original)

Thinkpad P50 with new keyboard - the old keyboard is next to it, in front of that are +1,00 cheap reading glasses

Fixed the #Thinkpad #P50 #keyboard (it was a bit worse for wear to start with and then some keys just stopped working). Had to put on safety specs for this work - not because of any danger, but this pair has +1,00 lenses which due to #presbyopia make it easier to see the small fiddly connectors for the ribbon cables.. #repair #laptopRepair #maintenance

new Thinkpad P50 keyboard at the top, the old knackered one at the bottom (many keys have worn off as it was a resprayed overlay of another language keyboard)

The thinkpad P50 with the keyboard removed, a set of small screwdrivers and some car trim tools (of a similar dimension to spudgers) are around it

the connectors for the ribbon cables, right hand side is for keyboard and left hand side for trackpoint and buttons. They are small and have to be sprung very carefully by lifting the black part which hinges outwards, the cable is inserted and then the black clip pressed down to hold it (its a fiddly job, especially if you are older)

Ok, I spent yesterday afternoon trying to get #RAID configured on my #lenovo #ThinkPad #P70 - to no success.

I found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyCC1NGe8a8&t=36s of the similar #p50 and configuring #RAID which shows the #BIOS interface but my P70's only show the "non-raid physical discs" I do not have an option for RAID volumes. Note I have upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version on lenovo's web site. Any thoughts?

I have attached 2 #screenshots of what the BIOS displays - I'm trying to configure the RAID on the two 512GB #NVMe sticks.

Ayer me dio el bichito de volver a probar #archlinux en su forma de #manjaro, pero despues de mas de 10 intentos finalmente desisti

En este #lenovo #p50 con 2 discos #ssd separados instalar Linux, puede ser un dolor de muelas. Supongo que debe ser culpa de #UEFI

Los dias que me distanciado del #lenovo #P50 los he rellenado con muchas otras actividades... y entre ellas en leer mas notas sobre empresas que me han sorprendido...

¿Sabian que la ultima empresa de gran tamaño que fabricaba #laptops en #Europa cerro sus puertas en 2018? Yo me acabo de enterar que la fenecida #FujitsuSiemens llego a tener casi el 10% del mercado europeo en sus mejores dias... y como su nombre lo indica fue un #jointventure entre la empresa de #Alemania #Siemens y la de #Japon #Fujitsu

Y la ultima empresa de tamaño mediano que hoy sigue sobreviviendo en #Europa es la alemana #Medion, que desde hace ya casi una decada es parte de la multinacional de #China LENOVO... la misma que desde 2015 mantiene la delantera mundialmente

BIOS via CD-image nach Jahren mal wieder aktualisiert, den ganzen Drecks-Intel-AMT Rotz und andere TPM-Scheiße deaktiviert und schon startet es nicht nur brav ohne Oopsis und sinnfreie Warterei auf Kram den privat kein Schwein braucht, sondern fährt auch wieder brav runter und zwar richtig und nicht nur so zombiemäßig mit leuchtender Tastatur und weiß der Geier was sonst noch angeschaltet blieb seit irgend einem Intel Management Update.

#huawei i read on commercial social media that recent #p50, #p60 cannot have 5G connectivity in the EU? My 2 year old #p40 pro had #5G, unfortunately it was stolen from me 23 july 9:30, now 6 weeks ago.
