Oh man, there are some nice T60 #Thinkpads available on eBay right now, but too expensive.

I wonder if I can jury-rig a modern battery pack to my X200's DC input and toss (not literally) the dodgy third-party batteries that perform like dirt.

This is pretty awesome stuff that @libreleah is customizing #Thinkpads #T480 with her free BIOS #libreboot .

@static Lenovo Tablets ( #ThinkPads) are great.
They are the literal Tabula Rasa that Apple advertised the #iPad to be, before they shoved all their proprietary subscription services onto them.
You can completely customise them with any flavour of Linux or other open-source OS.

wait cos smtp technically shouldn't need the internet to work, I wonder if I could create an offline flat mesh of smtp relays using #openbsd's #opensmtpd that all share a nfs with a mbox in it to store a record of all sent messages and their metadata to implement an offline, self-hostable, blockchain-like-distributed-database-thingy over smtp.

lets re-implement #arpanet for the 21st century using...email

brb gonna repurpose a bunch of old #thinkpads for this stupid idea...maybe

Talking with the folks in the local #vintage / #retrocomputing community, they clued me in that the #ThinkPad #RAID is a steaming pile of đź’© and not worth the trouble.

🤷 Oh well. Thanks for cluing me in

So I swapped out the two testing #NVMe drives I was using and reinstalled the original sticks - to have #windoz10 demanding for the #bitlocker recovery key. 🤦‍♂️

Well, time to wipe & install #windoz11 then.

Install went fine, only 4 rando #drivers to find for all #devices to be recognized and working.

Using my #CTT scripts to install the majority of applications, then to remove the #spyware #bloatware and other garbage #micro$oft added to #windows11

Then migrate my #data from my other ThinkPad. Welcome to my #sunday #funday

Ok, I spent yesterday afternoon trying to get #RAID configured on my #lenovo #ThinkPad #P70 - to no success.

I found this video youtube.com/watch?v=AyCC1NGe8a of the similar #p50 and configuring #RAID which shows the #BIOS interface but my P70's only show the "non-raid physical discs" I do not have an option for RAID volumes. Note I have upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version on lenovo's web site. Any thoughts?

I have attached 2 #screenshots of what the BIOS displays - I'm trying to configure the RAID on the two 512GB #NVMe sticks.

Tech replacement ist coming up by the end of the year: we will be replacing with on or and we would also totally give our staff s to replace iPhones right away, *if* it had Support for Signal and Session Messenger. Also: a *hotspot* feature would be great to work on Trains. Please consider soon!

A thing that I absolutely love about old #Thinkpads is the absolutely fast and easy way you can switch out the harddisk, making it very pleasant to tinker with various configurations and alternative operating systems

On older it was easy to change the keyboard. Newer ThinkPads are a mess. You have to remove almost everything, including the motherboard, before you can replace the keyboard. Apart from that, the keyboards also had more profile.

Part 4/4 following up on the thread:
The continuing efforts with the #ThinkPad #W510: Though that 32GB tested out fine with #MEMTest86plus v7, that does not mean the #BIOS and other circuitry in a W510 can handle 32GB. Thanks to the local vintage computing group cluing me in that e820 BIOS routines were not tested against 32 GB of physical memory. If wonky, then that could confuse the bootloader – the issues I was running into.

On their suggestion, I replaced the #DIMMs with four (4) 4GB DIMMs totaling 16GB. Ran #MEMTest86+ and they passed.

Reinitiated the #Win11 install, and the install worked! But like the #Win10 #x86 install I had on here previously; #Windows is dog slow on this laptop. It was usable, was able to update the latest patches and such, but painful and not the end user experience I wanted. With only a i7 1.6Ghz processor, this may be the cutoff for usability. Any of the i5 or i7 ThinkPads with >2Ghz processors ran Win11 with minimal issues and certainly not with this slowness I experienced.

So, I have re-thought my plans for this #laptop reinstalling #debian latest and thinking about what to do next for my workbench needs. Need to do some research on which other #Lenovo #thinkpads have #eSATA ports which would have faster processors than this W510.
