Ooh. New updates for #PiHole 👍🏻
I absolutely ❤️ Pi-hole (and #PiVPN) for getting rid of pesky adverts across all our computers, laptops, phones, TVs.
Everyone should have one!
clawd.bot -> molt.bot -> openclaw.ai
Cyan background added And this is how fast things are moving in the tech space specifically in the genAI realm. You can read all about this tool which is entirely open source and on a MIT license - although I would prefer it to be on GPLv3. It is a framework that you can engage with using any chat platform - mastodon, signal, telegram etc, between you and this tool to have work on your behalf on things that matter to you. In many ways, these are steps in the direction of Personal AI much […]https://harishpillay.com/2026/01/30/clawd-bot-molt-bot-openclaw-ai/
I wrote a little something on setting up PiVPN https://chronocide.neocities.org/writing/setting-up-pivpn/. #pivpn #raspberrypi #selfhosting

New update to the #Homelab Wiki: Updated the existing guide to set up a #WireGuard #VPN server using #PiVPN, and added a new guide to set up a WireGuard VPN server, with a web UI, using the #wg-easy #Docker container.
PiVPN has been rock solid for me for many years, but after testing out WireGuard Easy - having your deployment containerised and having that web interface is pretty nice!

but thankfully there are parts of my #surfhosting tech stack which are fairly settled already:
OS: #LinuxMint; #Debian (with #LXQt if needed, or #BunsenLabs); #OpenWRT
Virtualization: #Proxmox
Hardware: refurb "1-liter" #1LPC business #miniPC from HP, Dell, Lenovo, with mid to high end CPU
Network: #GLiNet and #FriendlyElec #NanoPi routers / network-attached devices; #PiVPN
Phone: #VoipMS with dedicated SIP phone, plus softphone apps for limited use
Power: 90% of everything powered from compact #GaN USB-PD power supplies; 24/7 gear backed by ~15 year old consumer UPSes with drop-in LFP 12V batteries
@joachim_kreativ ja.
is there a fork of #pivpn out there that, uh, still fucking works? Cause it doesn't anymore
So I've been using #PiVPN for years to set up my personal #Wireguard #VPN server, and it works fine. However, it has been "sort of" deprecated, which isn't a huge deal since it doesn't do much after it sets up your native packages, but it also means it may go away or be unavailable for future installs, so I went looking for an alternative.
Enter this little script simply called "wireguard-install". It's basically just asks some simple questions and sets up Wireguard.

rebuilding my #PiVPN endpoint and it's now that I realize:
1. my old endpoint has been stable and working flawlessly for 18 months
2. I didn't fully document the setup 18 months ago
Pro tip:
If you have a server/pc you want to access from home, but have shit upload speeds, get a VPS (there are cheap/free options), set up pivpn, and connect botn your server and client to said vpn, that way you get good speeds AND access
when I want to expose an app running on my home-network:
when you are self-hosting at home, and you want to give friends access to your jellyfin, whats your preferred way of doing this? My focus is on security, but I'm not an expert on this.
Right now, what I have done is, I set up pivpn with a firewall that exposes only the jellyfin ip/port, so that other stuff on my network isn't available to connected users.
However, their whole internet traffic would go through my network now (if not split-tunneled), unless I restrict internet access, which would also be a dick move of me to people who forget to switch off the VPN 😆
I was now thinking about setting up a reverse proxy, instead of this whole VPN idea.
How is the security when I'm using a dynamic DNS, that points to my home-network, where I'm using a reverse proxy to catch the requests and expose only jellyfin? How is the security level of a reverse proxy vs vpn?
Looking forward to reading opinions and ideas!
