#StainedGlass #window in St Ethelbert's Church, Herringswell, #Suffolk U.K. It's a depiction of St. Hubert, patron saint of hunters, archers, and #dogs . St. Hubert (aka Hubertos) is considered to be the originator of ethical hunting behavior for Catholics. His Feast Day is November 3rd.

St. Hubert's story holds that after the death of his wife, the nobleman went to live in the woods. There, he saw a stag with a cross glowing between its horns, and took it as a sign from God.

[Window in memory of Llewellyn Sidney Davies, designed by H.W.Luxford.]

Photo of a two-panel stained glass window from St Ethelbert's Church in Herringswell, Suffolk, UK.

It depicts St Hubert. In the right panel, a medieval dressed hunter stands with a spear in one hand and a book in the other. Around his head is the glow of a halo. Near his feet is a small brown and white dog. In the left panel, a stag is standing on a hill. Between its large horns is a glowing Christian cross.

A famous #StainedGlass window, at #StGilesCathedral in #Edinburgh.

The window tells the story of the 1570 assassination of the Earl of Moray, who had the ignoble honor of being the first politician to be assassinated by a gun.

The top panel shows him getting shot by James Hamilton of Bothwellhaugh (a man who was angry that his family had been evicted from their home by Moray). Hamilton later escaped safely to France, and members of Moray's political enemies (kin to #MaryQueenOfScots ) were tried and convicted of taking part in the conspiracy.

The bottom panel shows his funeral, officiated by Rev. John Knox (who made an exception to his Protestant Reformationist beliefs in order to speak at the funeral).

This window was made in 1881 by James Ballatine and Son. Links and more information about the many beautiful windows at St. Giles are in the comments below.

This depicts the Earl of Moray (in Knight's armour and a blue cape-cloak) being shot by a wide-barrelled gun (left). The crowd is shocked and afraid, many are looking up towards the killer, who is in a nearby balcony. The bottom panel of the stained glass window. It depicts the Earl of Moray's funeral, with Reformationist Minister John Moore in a balcony (to the right), speaking to the crowd. The crowd is composed of a large number of well-dressed noble men (there are no women) packed tightly in the room. All are standing, except a scant few men in the front of the images, who are kneeling and weeping with grief.

Much of the #Superman movie #ManOfSteel was filmed near me, when the small town of #Plano #Illinois was remade to become #Smallville . This window at the Plano Methodist Church was used in the scene where #ClarkKent ( #HenryCavill ) is talking to a preacher about sacrificing himself in order to save the world from Zod.

This #StainedGlass #window was used as background symbolism in that scene, because it depicts Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, before sacrificing himself on the cross for all mankind (Matthew 26:36-46).

Every year, the town of Plano hosts a Superman Celebration, and visitors can see some of the places where scenes were filmed. I was also fortunate enough to visit when the set was days away from production, and see everything that had been done to the town in preparation. (I will post those images sometime later.)

A close-up view of the stained glass window. The window depicts Jesus, clad in white with a red robe, kneeling down and praying by a large rock, and looking heavenward.

In the foreground, a corner of the window is obscured by the shadow of a man walking past, and a box fan is sitting in the windowsill by the other corner.A full view of the stained glass window at the United Methodist Church in Plano, Illinois.

The upper section of the window is a slightly pointed arch shape with a flowery design in the middle. The petals of the flower contain identical jewel images. A small circle is on each side of the flower, but unfortunately, the photo is not high-quality enough to determine what the circles are supposed to be.

The main section of the window depicts Jesus, clad in white with a red robe, kneeling down and praying by a large rock, and looking heavenward.

On each side of the main panel is a tall rectangular side panel with identical blue-themed sky scenes. The bottom of each panel is opened a bit inwards for fresh air.

He is just to the right of the image of the kneeling Jesus.

The Chapel of Souls: A Masterpiece of 15,947 Blue Ceramic Tiles

In the city of Porto, Portugal, there’s a church that stands out from everything around it. It’s called the Chapel of Souls, and its walls are completely covered in 15,947 blue tiles, called azulejos. These tiles make the building look like a piece of art. The work was done by Eduardo Leite in 1929, and it’s still as beautiful as ever. The pictures on the tiles tell important stories from history and religion, like the death of Saint Francis of Assisi and the martyrdom of Saint […]

#StainedGlass windows above the former HTS entrance at the Molenstraat in #Leeuwarden.

Stained glass windows above entrance to an apartment building. This building used to serve as the school building of the HTS, the "hogere technische school" - literally translated the "higher technical school".
The stained-glass window is about 10 metres high, divided into rectangles, five high, seven wide. The outer edge of rectangles show organic shapes in pale colours. The inner rectangles also show these, but more brightly coloured and with a number of pictoral representations: in the centre, a large flame composed of many coloured planes, with an athlete in front of it, seen from the side, with one arm pointing upwards. To its right, a young man studying at a table with books. On the left a boy, seated, playing with a train, and behind him a girl with a doll.
The window is brightly lit, as is the entrance to the building below, where interior walls and doors are clearly visible.

Built in 1935
Architect: Baart
Style: Amsterdamse school / Amsterdam school
