Ok, I've got a #cloudengineer spicy ๐ถ๏ธ take that will lose some followers.
(Preface: I've used #terraform and built up some moderately complex infra with it. Nothing crazy. I'm not an expert, but definitely not new to it either.)
I will take #ansible every day of the week over TF for any task that's not just spinning up vanilla, CSP-specific infra. That's the one place where TF shines, and everything else imo is just unnecessarily irritating.
Ansible is cleaner, easier to reason about, and just makes sense to my brain.
I think it's TF's syntax. It reminds me of #jinja or #golang template language with the unintuitive way of evaluating conditions and calling functions.
I said what I said.
Because I still meet #kubernetes #k8s users that are manually kubectl-ing everything, allow me to make a PSA:
Download this yesterday. It is, hands down, my desert island #kube tool.

@damonp @kde yeah, I can see that. KDE definitely skews more towards a tech/customizeable aesthetic I think, which might be overwhelming if you don't need/want all of that.
Gnome goes for clean and more minimal.
For context, I used to be a professional creative (audio/photo/video, etc.), and then switched to #softwaredev
I actually used to go with Gnome when I first started dipping my toes into Linux, because it was a bit more in the MacOS design philosphical wheelhouse, and it worked well.
These days, I'm a #cloudengineer and after years working all different distros, I feel more comfortable in KDE because I can really make it my own, and I've got the knowledge and experience to actually make it my own, in meaningful ways.
@mathiasx and I were having an interesting back and forth, and his post got me thinking:
For all #softwaredev #programmer #cloudengineer types out there, what energy audit tools are out there right now that people could start leveraging to evaluate their code for being more efficient from a "reduce fossil fuel consumption" point of view?
Static analysis, CI tools, etc. All ideas welcome.
@grafana I feel like something like this is in your wheelhouse. Also, any @cncfambassadors in the environmental sustainment TAG know of some tooling?

I'm actively considering switching from a #cloudEngineer / #systemEngineer job into a #solutionsArchitect position, within the same company.
It involves a lot less handson, more overall designing the right solution for the right job - being either onprem, cloud, vm, bare metal, k8s, Azure,...
