My job offers what many would consider "outstanding" benefits - and compared to a lot of jobs out there, it does. Example: We are closed between Xmas eve and new years day with pay. Thats cool.
Another example: my job offers 5 days of bereavement leave. Problem is, it only covers family. Granted, it covers lots of extended family, in laws, aunts, uncles, even "parent like figures".
One of my closest friends died a week ago after having cancer for 2 years. She had been unable to get her age appropriate check ups when our #HealthcareSystem #Collapsed during #COVID and 1.5 years later she had #Cancer. It was diagnosed in 2021 - stage 4. She lived okay on chemo for almost 2 years after her diagnosis, but when she went downhill, it happened fast. I was out of town. I couldn't be there.
I was her 2nd power of attorney and also one of the people closest to the situation. I inherited a huge amount of things from her (I agreed to take this on before she passed) and have to pack and move that stuff, plus I know I need to help plan her celebration of life.
All during the holidays, when I was on a break from work after a lot of stress.
