To the greatest extent possible I do my work by human power, but there are limits to how much I can control.

This morning I made a delivery to someone who lives in a village in Drenthe so that delivery was made 100% by human power as I rode there and back in my velomobile.

Parts ordered by people who live thousands of km away are a different story. I can then only control the first few km. So I go as far by bike as I can and then those parcels continue their journeys by commercial shipping companies.

All shipping companies make green claims these days, and they make rather more grand claims than I do. But none of those claims amount to anything close to traveling by human power alone.

Are there rapid prototyping devices for #HumanPowered #LowTech machines with gearing and stuff?

Someone (Hi Leo & Grace) asked about how I made my keychain. I just sewed it from pre-printed ribbon, but the thought sent me down a rabbit hole learning about different methods that can be used to make a ribbon or strap from thread/string.

Now I'm probably going to try some really simple band #weaving when I find the time (lol), and then explore to what extent it can be automated without building anything large or expensive. I'm thinking shuttle guides in the heddle and a crank to tap the shuttle back and forth, or something like that. For making pride ribbons, plain weave would be plenty for most of the flags.

A good portion of our mulch hay I cut myself using this scythe. A very pleasant implement to use, I got it from https://scythesupply.com/, a small company in Maine. They customise the tool to your anatomical dimensions.

Today's second utility ride was a 12 km round trip to the recycling centre with a heavy trailer loaded with the remains of a useless decorative plant. We now have a bit more space in our front garden for the far more useful apple tree to expand into.
Three speed hub gears are a fabulous invention for utility cycling.

Contractor says he’s never seen anyone do it before? On rollers, with basically no powered tools and small help I shifted and leveled these 6 concrete slabs heavier than me and then using my 25 years rusty masonry skills filled in with salvaged mostly concrete pavers, a few marble curb pieces, and some brick from my house. I saved this much new concrete from being made. I saved some fossil fuel generated energy. Plus I saved some money on a gym membership ha ha jk dad bod 4 eva. Also just realized the new walk runs directly between my two most-used rain barrels! Now I will plant native edible ground cover and shrubs and some fruit trees, it’ll be awesome
