Looks like 2026 is gonna be the year of the #linuxmobile DE. Seems like theres a lot of mobile first DE that are in the works and making some progress.

Marathon-Shell by #MarathonOS is Blackberry inspired built in C++ and QML QT6

Mechanix-GUI by #MechaComet launcher developed in rust using GPUi and companion apps in Rust and/or Flutter

Flick which is developed in Rust using #Slint

@bart this popped back into my head recently and checked their discord. Looks like @newbyte confirmed that #marathonos is just gonna piggy back off the pmos immutability thats in the works and not make their own.

I also asked about hybris support and the creator mentioned that was in reference to the shell, it runs on hybris devices running other OS like droidian for example.

So it does seem like its mostly a shell and they are using #postmarketos as their base for the OS.

For those that didnt see @linmob latest post, it looks like someone got #marathonos or atleast its shell setup on a hackberrypi with a CM5. Looks pretty good from a ux perspective atleast on a mobile device.

Lilbits: iPad-style multitasking on iPhones, and maybe Lenovo didn’t leak any Android PC plans after all

Last week news started to make the rounds that Lenovo has published a web page spelling out the pros (and many cons) of PCs running Android. But Lenovo has since removed that website and claimed that it had nothing to do with Google’s plans to bring Android to PCs in the future… although it’s unclear why Lenovo published that page in the first place.
