@Elizafox @notjustbikes OFC dedicaded routes are better and the only good excuse for #Trams is when you want to cover high volumes of commuters in a dense urban area with dedicaded lanes but can't demolish roads and install big stations but need to provide more capacity than you can serve with all the buses you have.

  • That's why only big cities like #Köln and #Düsseldorf run #Tram networks and even they try to move them underground because surface traffic - notably cars - are the prime pain point for smooth operations. Don't as a #KVB employee about how many times they have assholes block intersections during a red light, preventing their bus or tram to drive...

And whilst I'd love to see the "Line O" linking Opladen with Deutz, everyone can agree that for those that need to take that trip end-to-end the RB48 & RE7 are superior alternatives in service and those that need to get on or off at one of the places that line stopped the Bus Line 250 will be sufficient.

Ever wondered how the South #London #Trams and DLR branding evolved? I’ve mapped out their visual journey from the early days of "Docklands" and "Tramlink" to the modern unified #TfL roundels we see today.

Which era of the design is your favourite? 🚈🚃

An infographic titled "Logos and roundels of the Docklands Light Railway and South London Trams," created by @CLondoner92 in January 2026. The graphic compares the visual evolution of both networks in two columns.

The DLR column shows the 1987 blue "Docklands" logo, the 1991 red "LIGHT RAIL" roundel, the 1992 teal rectangular logo, and the current teal "DLR" roundel used since 2002.

The South London Trams column displays the 1996 green "Tramlink" text logo, the 2000 green square logo, and the lime green roundel which alternated between "TRAMS" (2002–2008, 2016–present) and "TRAMLINK" (2008–2016). The footer includes a creator credit and a legal disclaimer regarding the fair dealing use of TfL roundels for illustrative purposes.

On the tram home today we met some Polish visitors travelling with their Aussie grandson. They didn't speak much English, but we had a brief chat and I said "Do widzenia" on the way out at our stop. Nice to have these brief exchanges on PT sometimes, spread a little friendliness.

@notjustbikes after riding the South Yorkshire Supertram, I'm wondering if the slow acceleration could be because TTC doesn't want announcements like the Supertram's "This is ... This is a tram to ... (chime, doors close) Please hold on!" and they aren't kidding: that acceleration makes people fall over quite easily. Online info claims 1.3m/s² on the Siemens Duewag trams, slightly more than Amsterdam's CAF Urbos. I didn't find a published figure for TTC's Citadis Spirit.

I see the NSW Transport site has caught up with the opening of the new Sydney Fish Market, and the renaming of the old Fish Market tram stop. Google Maps still needs to catch up though.

The depot closed in 1966, and a modern plaque in the shape of an old tram ticket tells its history and details its conversion into housing in 2017.

Remnants of the Govan Tram Depot on Brand Street in the Cessnock area of Glasgow. Opened in 1915, the castle-like red sandstone building on the corner with Harvie Street functioned as the office block, while the entrance to what was once the tram yard and sheds is still marked by a sculpted GCT monogram (Glasgow Corporation Tramways) on an old gate post.
