Today is day 10 of #30DaysWild and during our #garden #hedgewatch we saw this 🙀 #Pupae (fig 1)from a #ladybird Before we did know only about the #larvae (fig 2).

Hey #BugSky who have we got here? About 5cm. Segmented and moved when I picked it up. We’re thinking hawk moth but the local two are Manduca quinta and M. sexta and it’s neither of those. Tidewater Virginia. #chrysalis #moth #pupae

Chrysalis has these spots down each side, black dorsal stripe.

I guess this old glove isn't mine anymore.

Glad I noticed the new residents before trying to put it on. Any guesses as to the species? Maybe some type of mud dauber? I guess I'll just leave it alone and see if they emerge in the spring.

POV: you were about to put on this old, left hand work glove, but you can see through its wrist, as you hold it in your left hand, that there's something residing in its thumb.

About four or five wasp or bee pupae in dried mud cells inside the thumb of an old brown leather and synthetic fabric work glove.

The #antbagbeetle #Clytra laeviuscula (#Chrysomelidae, #Coleoptera) is a #phytophagous #beetle #species widespread in Europe with a #myrmicophilic relationship of the #larvae and #pupae to #antnests of the genera #Formica, #Lasius and Camponotus. The larva lives mainly from the food of the ant larvae. It is protected from ant attacks by own dropping pieces (#skatoconches). Pupation also takes place in this protected manner. #evolution #biodiversity

Last year a Green-Veined White, Pieris napi, pupa appeared next to the lock on my main door, so all winter I had to be very careful when I was fitting my key into the lock, especially at night. This spring the butterfly didn't emerge despite, as the image shows, the pupa having wing and antennae bumps. So I feel simultaneously blessed by its presence and sad it died before taking flight. I think it was attracted to my garden by Ladies Smock aka Blodyn y Gog the "county flower" of Brycheiniog. Also named L: Cardamine pratensis, E: Cuckooflower, C: Ffedog y Forwyn, C South: Blodyn Llaeth and C North: Blodyn Llefrith, and because "cuckoo stockings" is as adorable as foxgloves C: Hosanau'r Gog.

Found on the underside of an oak leaf, this looks like the aftermath of a very small demonic ritual.
On closer inspection they appear to be empty pupae from a leaf-hopper maybe?
No idea about the spider either 🤷‍♂️
