Someone at my local radio club set up a BBS on a UHF frequency. Not many users, but it's kind of neat to log into it over the radio.

The past future is here...BBS messages, but sadly none by RF yet. I tried some borrowed kit today and made GB7KSE officially 'Operational' on the ETCC site.

A revolting looking Tait 8110 is on the way so it'll be a wire brush and dettol to clean myself up after attempting to clean the rig..

Random question for hams...our area has a high reliance on the 1.25 meter band for packet-all of the government offices and hospitals are equipped. We've standardized for decades on Alinco single-band radios for the purpose. They're aging out and Alinco no longer makes a 220 single band radio.

So far we've tried the TYT TH9000, and are not entirely pleased. Does anyone know ANY other 220 mobile radios in production? Preferable single band?

I just found my old KISS TNC-X with 9 pin serial that I built about 20 years ago.

Packet peeps - what software can I throw on my Mac or Win or Linux machines to play with this thing before it gets wrapped in bubble wrap for the trip back to blighty? We have packet activity near me so it would be nice to have a play and reminisce about my old Pk232mbx days.

I still see a lot of statements from amateur radio operators that #DMR doesn't have good support for #packet-data transport.

I think these opinions are based on what capabilities are (not) implemented by cheaper vendors instead of looking at the standard and what more established vendors do.

I've been trying lately to dispel this myth (and thanks to @n8gnj for publishing my comments in ZeroRetries). In fact, the support for data transfer in DMR is pretty comprehensive.

Good morning Y'll! A pleasant start to the week; cooler temperatures, no significant rain forecasts, and nothing overly exciting from the weekend.

I spent Saturday installing one of my #AmateurRadio projects in its permanent location. As a #Packet node and BBS, it has linked itself by radio to a majority of the nearby sites, helping to expand the network in all directions in the state.

Sunday I spent in a local state park, testing the new BBS.... and found that I need to get the antennas on the site a little higher. At least the HF side of things wasn't bad; I picked up about 10-12 new contacts. The sunshade project (sunshade materials off the back of the vehicle) helped keep the sun and heat off of me while I operated the radios. Not a bad weekend at all.

Nice weather is expected all this week throughout the Commonwealth. We have an active #AirQuality alert today for the counties north of I-80. I expect that to be prevalent all week as the weather is pushing from the northwest, bringing smoke from the Canadian wildland fires.

Yesterday i worked on #IPv6 support on my #openwrt #router. Splitting the IPv6-PD into my 6 interfaces felt like rocket sience since i never had to actually understand IPv6. Customizing the #ULA to include the interface ID and custom prefix wasn't easier either.

But hey, it's working now and it's definitely worth learning. As soon as that's done i'm gonna work on my #packet #monitoring service again because this time i can #deploy it directly on my router and ban abusive IP's #network wide.

Nice. I'm receiving spam on the e-mail address I used with #packet.com before it was bought by #Equinix.

Now I wonder what #Equinix did to lose my e-mail address...
