#pedometer

Yesterday, we went on a #walking trip in #Exmoor, which is in #Somerset, despite the name. I had been planning a round #walk from #Dulverton to the #TarrSteps since last summer and this #BankHoliday weekend is a good time to have it as the weather is better, though not too hot, the days are longer, and there's a spare day for recovery. My wife used a #pedometer app to record the journey and it clocked in at 24.2 km and she recorded nearly 36,000 steps in eight hours, including breaks.

Upgraded my pedometer and OMG my step count! ☺️ Working ever closer to the goal of 10 thousand per day after healing from a LONG bout of chronic fatigue issues. Good riddance and stay gone! #APhotoADay #PhotoJournal #Fitness #Pedometer #Watch

So, something really interesting / odd to me. I bought a #Casio #gshock recently. It was one of two watches that I bought for their #pedometer because I was tired of having to remember to grab my phone everytime I went to do some chores around the house.

Immediately I noticed that there were, what I believed to be, calibration differences between my phone and the watch. Like over 1000 steps difference per day. But, seeing as the #watch was lower, I decided that was a good thing.

However, after several days of wearing the G-Shock I wanted to wear a different watch. So I decided I'd keep the #gshock in my pocket. Because of the way the band is done on the G-Shock I removed it and put the watch in my pocket.

Around lunchtime I noticed that the pedometer was off -- like way off even what it would be normally. I thought maybe I couldn't keep it in my pocket and have it be accurate. So, I threaded a wire through the strap mount holes and clipped it to the necklace that I wear. Checking later it hadn't registered any more steps -- even when my phone had registered over 1000.

So, I've now put the band back on it, and added to my collection boxes. Guess I'll just wear it in rotation like I would any other watch. And, for tracking my steps, I went ahead and ordered a standaloone pedometer that's supposed to be very accuracte and I can just clip to a pocket.

Has anyone else noticed discrepancies / issues with G-Shock pedometers? The model I purchased was the GBD-200.

Pretty cool. #Pedometer now has historical trends.

Apple Health had it but it makes visualization a bit easier

Huh. Just found out my average daily step count over the past decade (plus a smidge) has been 13,556 steps/day!

Not too shabby for a 72-year-old. 🤣

i don’t know if i should get a smart watch or a FitBit or something else entirely 😅

Thanks ++ and @_Davidsmith for having given us a great tool to discover beautiful places around us! While having an ice cream of lake , I’ve put together a quick lake walk and had the confidence of the route in seconds!! Amazing!!

My biggest walk of the year. Until 2020, this would have been a typical Thursday for me. Now it tires me out. I’m done for the day. #walking #pedometer

Woran merke ich, dass ich etwas essen sollte? Wenn ich im #Pedometer permanent „#Schnitzel“ statt „#Schrittziel“ lese.

@_Davidsmith has something changed with the Pedometer++ algorithm? I had got a 90-day streak (and the badge) up to a couple of weeks ago, now that’s disappeared and there are some breaks in it. Not that it matters too much!

Also I did a fair bit of walking yesterday and notice that Pedometer++ shows 12703 but Apple Health 7565 which seems quite a big difference!

@_Davidsmith good discussion on #UnderTheRadar about adding route tracking to #Pedometer++ and the only thing missing compared to the watch being HR.

Have you considered supporting Bluetooth heart rate monitors? It’d be a USP that lifts you above most of the other run/hike routing apps as very few seem to do it.

@_Davidsmith Amazing walk tracked with the Pedometer++ v5. Small suggestion for v5.50, a share button to share a visual resume of your walk. Congrats on your amazing work and thank you for you very informative and inspiring design diaries. ++

I'm thinking of #investing in some #sheep.

#Suffolk #wethers are available locally for $125 #USD. I've got about 26k square feet of #grass that I'm not all that nuts about pushing a mower around after my typical week of doing #pestcontrol (my #pedometer says I take between 7.7-13k steps per day doing that, so come the weekend I don't feel like doing more!). #Mowing grass is stupid, but turning it into #meat...

Couple hundred bucks updating my fences and I think this is a go. 🐏 👌

Slither: a Visual Pedometer That Sheds Light

Have you already broken that New Year's resolution to get more exercise? Yeah, us too. Maybe the problem is simply that we didn't gamify the goal. A simple visual aid that shows your progress can help make a goal more achievable and easier to stick to, day after January day. That's the idea behind [skhackett]'s Slither, the visual pedometer.

Although Slither uses the Fit Bit app, no actual Fit Bit is required -- great news for those of us who don't like to wear accessories. But you will have to carry your phone everywhere if you want your steps to count. By tracking the steps taken each day, the sum of Slither's segments signifies a weekly total goal of 50,000 steps.

Around back is a Feather Huzzah that receives step data from the phone and drives a strand of side-lit LED strips. There's a Hall effect sensor in the tail, and Slither is powered on and off with a small, separate piece of wood and acrylic with a magnet embedded inside. Isn't that a classy way to switch a snake?

We really like the look of the plywood here, though [skhackett] recommends using MDF instead because they experienced a fair amount of chipping. If you just want to watch the snake light up, it shouldn't be too hard to cheat the pedometer.
