#AutoKey

I've summarized my settings and customization of my desktop using #GNOME48 (from #Debian13 #Trixie) on karl-voit.at/Gnome-Setup/

Including:
- my choice of #GNOME Extensions
- custom scripts in "Files" (#Nautilus) incl. keyboard shortcuts
- most settings can be easily set by gseetings in your shell without requiring Settings or Tweaks UI
- list of current bugs relevant to me

Still missing:
- Working text snippets like #AutoKey or #AHK

TRIUMPH! The LAST and FINAL thing holding me back from completely moving to #Wayland was replacing #AutoKey for text expansion.

#espanso appears to replace all the functionality (at least that I use, although the scripting is not via Python). Happy!

NOTE! DEBIAN USERS! If you follow the instructions on the installation page, you get an old release that has dependency issues. Download the LATEST RELEASE 2.2.3 of the Wayland .deb

and then follow the installation instructions:

can someone tell me, how to get #AutoKey (installed appstream://autokey-gtk.desktop) from Discover working in all windows in #Neon #KDE?

It works in Google Chrome, but not in #Thunderbird (which would be 95% of my usage) or Kate.

Well, I could solve the #autokey problem.

The PC is now running #Garuda #Linux, which means it's still running #ArchLinux. However, some oddities are annoying. #luakit doesn't want to learn other search engines, but what's particularly annoying is that abbreviations, or letter shortcuts, can no longer be defined with #autokey. When I click "OK" in the corresponding dialog window, nothing happens. Hotkeys, however, can be configured. I don't get it. #Arch

#Arch

@bricabrac
Meines Wissen in allen Distributionen erhältlich.

The advantages of are its cross-platform ability and, like , but unlike and , it doesn't need a separate file for each trigger, so you can have thousands!

#Texpander is a simple text expander for #Linux. It is sort of like #Autokey, except it works off of text files that you put in your ~/.texpander directory. Texpander is a #bash script that uses #xclip, #xdotool, and #zenity to let you type an abbreviation for something and it expands to whatever you have in the matching text file.

I've occasionally made use of , but find easier to configure and, like , it is better for large numbers of expansions.

There are probably other utilities, but a user on Discord (discord.com/channels/884163483) is working on mobile apps which can use Espanso's YAML files.

@maexchen1

💡 #TIL there's another effort going on to bring inglorious

(#X11, that is.)

Meet #AHK_X11 🥳

📖 phil294.github.io/AHK_X11

☝️ Caveat: It only supports legacy #AHK 1.1 syntax and does not aim for 100% feature parity/compatibility, but should enable you to use most of your #hotkeys and #hotstrings #crossplattform! (Sync on your own).

A Microsoft Windows 95 themed message box titled "AutoHotkey for Linux" with text "AHK_X11" and an OK buttonExcerpt from the AHK_X11's README:

HK_X11 is a very basic but functional reimplementation AutoHotkey v1.0.24 (2004) for Unix-like systems with an X window system (X11), written from ground up in Crystal, with the eventual goal of 80% feature parity, but most likely never full compatibility. Currently about 80% of work of getting there is done, but even at 100%, because of the old version of the spec (at least for now), many modern AHK features are missing, especially expressions (:=, % v), classes, objects and functions, so you probably can't just port your scripts from Windows. More to read: Project goals

This AHK is shipped as a single executable native binary with very low resource overhead and fast execution time. You can use AHK_X11 to create stand-alone binaries with no dependencies, including full functionality like Hotkeys and GUIs. (just like on Windows)

Please also check out Keysharp, a WIP fork of IronAHK, another complete rewrite of AutoHotkey in C# that tries to be compatible with multiple OSes and support modern, v2-like AHK syntax with much more features than this one. In comparison, AHK_X11 is a lot less ambitious and more compact, and Linux only.

Features:

✓ Hotkeys
✓ Hotstrings
✓ Key remappings
✓ Window management
✓ Send keys
✓ Control mouse
✓ File management
✓ GUIs
✓ One-click compile script to portable stand-alone executable
✓ Scripting: labels, flow control: Loop, IfWinExists, etc.
✓ Window Spy
✓ Context menu and compilation just like on WindowsAnother screenshot of the applications README showing code snippets for AutoHotkey syntax examples

@thunderbird
podcasts feeds in TB has been great for my setup

filter rules (?, can't remember exact name) also great to set alerts for some pods or keywords

the 3-4-5 steps to click and download the file can be macro'ed if needed with something like alternativeto.net/software/aut

@2342
