A Wind Advisory is in effect through 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2025, for Aitkin, Itasca, Koochiching, and northern and central St. Louis counties.  Wind gusts through Tuesday evening will gust up to 45 mph in spots.  A Wind Advisory is also in effect for Carlton, Cook, Lake, and southern St. Louis counties from 5 p.m. Tuesday through 3 a.m. Wednesday.  Wind gusts here will gust between 40 to 50 mph at times this evening and tonight.  A few spots along the North Shore could see gusts between 50 to 60 mph.

The satellite and radar over the Northland at 1:20 p.m. on November 3, 2025, shows very little cloud cover and no precipitation across the region.Temperatures in the Northland just after 1 p.m. on November 3, 2025, range from 48 to 56 degrees Fahrenheit.Wind gusts in the Northland just after 1 p.m. on November 3, 2025, range from 21 to 38 mph.  The highest wind gusts are next to Lake Superior.  Wind direction is primarily from the west and northwest.A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Aitkin, Carlton, Pine, and southern St. Louis counties through 5 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2025.  The rest of the Northland in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin are under a special statement for near-critical fire danger levels the rest of Monday.  The warm temperatures, dry air, and wind gusts over 30 mph could allow any fires to spread quickly across the region. It is recommended not to burn anything the rest of the day.

Scattered showers are rotating around the low-pressure center of the storm system currently centered over Lake Superior.  That means they are moving on shore across the Arrowhead, and southward elsewhere.Temperatures in the Northland just after 1 p.m. on October 21, 2025, range from 40 to 47 degrees Fahrenheit.Wind gusts across the Northland just after 1 p.m. on October 21, 2025, range from 17 to 30 mph.  They are even higher just outside of the Iron Range and I-35 corridor regions.  Wind direction is primarily from the northwest and north.A Wind Advisory continues until 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2025, for Aitkin and Pine counties.  This area of the Northland has the highest chance of seeing wind gusts up to 45 mph through the evening hours.  These wind speeds could be strong enough to cause down tree limbs and power lines.

One line is just east of Highway 63 in northwest Wisconsin, while the second line behind it extends from the Boundary Waters south/southwest through the Twin Ports and I-35 Corridor regions.  There are clear skies ahead and behind these lines.Temperatures in the Northland just after 1 p.m. on October 5, 2025, range from 64 to 81 degrees Fahrenheit.  The coolest readings are in the I-35 corridor, where two rounds of showers had recently passed through.Compared to 24 hours earlier, temperatures in the Northland just after 1 p.m. on October 5, 2025, are nearly all cooler by 4 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit.Wind gusts in the Northland just after 1 p.m. on October 5, 2025, range from 25 to 37 mph. WET WEEKEND STORM SYSTEM (AND SNOWY FOR A FEW):

The big #storm #system that passed through the #Northland did bring #rain #showers for everyone.

Some spots on the #Minnesota side saw a decent #precipitation event, and some of it fell as #snow.

Grand Marais and the North Shore did deal with #gusty #winds over 50 mph Saturday night.

The highest precipitation totals across the Northland from this past weekend was on the Minnesota side of the region.  They include 1.69-inches in Tamarack, 1.49-inches in Aitkin, 1.27-inches in Nothome, 1.09-inches in Libby, 1.05-inches in Wright, 0.86-inches in Hill City, and 0.81-inches in Moose Lake.Highest snowfall totals from this past weekend's storm system passing through the Northland were on the Minnesota side.  They include a steep drop off in totals.  Topping the list is Northome at 8.4-inches.  That was followed by 2.3-inches in Zemple, 1.6-inches in International Falls, 1.5-inches in Days High Landing, 1.3-inches in Orr, and 1.2-inches in Cook.

I like it when the past 24 hours of #weather have played out as #forecasted in the #Northland.

The #NorthShore saw the highest #rainfall totals, but everyone got at least around 0.50".

#Winds were also #gusty, with the highest totals near #LakeSuperior.

The highest rainfall totals recorded in the Northland since Monday afternoon were along the North Shore.  They include Finland at 2.96-inches, Beaver Bay at 2.60-inches, Two Harbors at 2.30-inches, Grand Marais at 2.15-inches, Grand Portage at 2.13-inches, and Silver Bay at 2.05-inches.Other rainfall totals recorded in the Northland since Monday afternoon include Hovland, Minnesota at 2.03-inches, the Duluth area at 1.93-inches, Lutsen, Minnesota at 1.84-inches, Tofte, Minnesota at 1.75-inches, Hermantown, Minnesota at 1.52-inches, and Pine City, Minnesota at 1.46-inches.The highest wind gusts recorded across the Northland since Monday afternoon were 61 mph at the Blatnik Bridge in the Twin Ports, 52 mph at both Duluth International Airport and the Bay of Grand Marais, 49 mph at Thompson Hill, 48 mph at Sky Harbor, and 46 mph at Devils Island, Wisconsin.Since midnight on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, airports across the Northland recorded their highest wind gusts ranging from 26 to 46 mph.  The highest were along the North Shore, Twin Ports, and Arrowhead regions.

Trees in our garden include the orange Sorbus Olympic Flame, the red Liquidambar and the feathery green Sumac tree. The breech tree is our local sentinel tree, where our squirrels, woodpeckers, owls and crows like to inhabit.
