Wintry days come and go- a couple of melting days, then fresh snowfall and a return to cold, rinse and repeat.. the time of growth and flowers is still rather distant, but these days have their own beauty.. Moose tracks: they were checking Castilleja seed heads for edibility- conclusion: Nope!

A series of snowy lumps and bumps- snow covered rock beds and berms with valleys between them. The afternoon winter light is at a low angle, coming from the left, and much of the view is in blue shadow: from trees out of view, from the scattered stems and dry seed heads sticking out of the snow, and from the beds and berms themselves. A couple of large footprints enter from lower right, from a moose that approached the dry stems of Castilleja/Paintbrush sticking up- apparently it decided this was not food, as they were untouched. The moose come into the yard regularly over the cold months, mostly pruning shrubs/saplings etc.

How it started. How it's going.

Quite a dramatic change from a few months ago when everything was frozen! Our favourite tree still hasn't fully blossomed but the lily pads provide plenty of green! 😄

Hopefully, I can get a good photo in the summer and then again in autumn and have the whole "Four Seasons"
