Around 2018, I started developing Big Tree (original title is #YatMadit), which is set in a world where every village is autonomous and enjoys a high level of self-sufficiency, manufacturing any tool or device in their backyard. I’ve written two short stories set in this universe, and you can read both online for free. Yat Madit, published in #Africanfuturism Anthology and The Gray Girl, published in Lowle Magazine. A couple of months ago, I finished a novella, as yet unpublished, and it nicely fits the solarpunk genre. If you are the reading type and donate $20 or more, I’ll send you a copy! The novella helped me clarify the world of the film, but of course to depict such a future needs a lot of visual effects. So I made many short films to learn CGI, including Little Red Eve (2025), which revolves around the villain in Big Tree, and it helped me figure out how a key visual effect that will drive the plot. You can watch the trailer here (everyone who donates gets a link to watch it). In 2019, I made Akoota, but failed to depict a futuristic village. So Wind will enable me figure out how to transform a present day village into a futuristic dream."

🌲 The biggest “wild” old growth Douglas Fir (not in a park, not on a big tree registry) I’ve ever found. On Vancouver Island. Not on any trails. The mystery: Why did the loggers leave this one standing? There are stumps nearby from other, smaller original trees.

My fave #BigTree yesterday, was this large #HorseChestnut #tree on a side road beside Wark Street Commons Community Park in #VictoriaBC in #QuadraVillage.

In Britain & Ireland, their seeds are used for the popular children's game conkers. During WWI there was a campaign asking everyone to collect the seeds & donate to the government. The #conkers were used as a source of #starch for #fermentation using the Clostridium acetobutylicum method devised by Chaim Weizmann to produce #acetone for use as a solvent for the production of #cordite, which was then used in #MilitaryArmaments. Weizmann's process could use any source of starch, but the government chose to ask for conkers to avoid causing starvation by depleting food sources. But conkers were found to be a poor source & the factory only produced acetone for 3 months; however, they were collected again in WWII for the same reason.
