The Men of Southeast Raleigh Continue Supporting Partner Read

Each week, the Men of Southeast Raleigh continue their powerful commitment to supporting students through the Partner Read Program at Southeast Raleigh Elementary School. Their presence is consistent, compassionate, and deeply impactful. By volunteering their time to read one-on-one with students, these community leaders are helping build confidence, strengthen literacy skills, and show our children that their success matters.

Reading is fundamental—not just for academic growth, but for unlocking imagination, opportunity, and lifelong learning. The Men of Southeast Raleigh understand this, and their ongoing dedication is a reminder of what community looks like in action. Raleigh’s future is brighter because of it.

Stay tuned to DoRaleigh.com for more stories highlighting the people and programs shaping Southeast Raleigh.

Beyond the Headlines: Immigration + Migrant Storytelling for Impact and Understanding

Our Executive Director Jen Fischer teams up with filmmaker Azie Tesfai, Sandra Hernandez of the Center for Immigration Law and Policy (CILP) at the UCLA School of Law, and SIE Society founder William Nix on December 5 at the Impact + Profit Conference to explore an urgent social issue: how to use storytelling to humanize the immigration experience and mobilize public response.

This thought-provoking session will offer a behind-the-scenes look at how narrative can shift systems — a must-attend for content creators, educators, and impact leaders.

We hope you can join us!

I started with another Ringling College of Art student a couple of weeks ago. They don’t have a program at their school so whenever a student approaches me with an interest in , I provide a free 6 week studio intensive where they get the entire experience from beginning to end—forming pieces, making their own slips & glazes, and firing.

The student’s hands forming a pot with a soft organic form out of brown clay. The pot sits on a small piece of cardboard on top of a work table. A beam of light shines softly onto the table, pot and the makers hands. A light blue wall and shelving are partially visible in the background. The student taking a photo of the pot they worked on in the previous photo. Various objects sit on the table along with the pot; a plastic water bottle, a ceramic bowl, pieces of clay, cardboard and tools. The background is a pottery studio with a light blue walls, lots of shelving and a window.

Let us help. We have resources to help you talk about gun violence in your classroom & community. We wish we didn't need to.

To start sensitive discussions around gun violence, we recommend Gabby Giffords Won't Back Down, the story of gun violence survivor Gabby Giffords, and our free teaching guides.

The team that worked on our teaching resources for Gabby Giffords Won't Back Down included gun violence survivors — and it shows. These materials are powerful, accessible and not political at all. Our Gabby Giffords Won't Back Down Learning Guide also includes our Facilitation Guidelines for Group Discussions, to help viewers voice things they need to talk about.

After-hours library access program winning users over for flexibility
