This is a great approach. Actually, I wished this was a default option on all distributions. I was always a bit reluctant to use BTRFS because it looked like more work. You nailed it by saying “ease-of-use” “for the average user”.
I use BTRFS + #timeshift on a #siduction installation. Wish your implementation would be available there.
Keep up the great work!

Off-topic: I looked it up but didn't find something. Do you use snap?

For those who want something close to Debian testing, #siduction (by default #KDE #Plasma6) might be worth a try. It is unstable (Codename: Sid), thus before testing. This means it is tested but, it is certainly not as stable as testing.
But here is the twist. Use it with #btrfs or #timeshift and #ext4 to have efficient tools for a rollback once it breaks (and it will break sporadically) and you should be good.

Have fun. Just updated a #Siduction installation.

Vielfach versucht #debian13 sid mit #btrfs, grub-btrfs, snapshots, lvm und Verschlüsselung zu installieren.
Vielfach krachend gescheitert.

Nehme jetzt #siduction. Ist auch sid und seit neuestem auch mit btrfs inklusive snapshots und grub-btrfs möglich.

Mein Endziel ist eine #hyprland Umgebung zu haben, wo plugins funktionieren.
Habe insgesamt 3 hyprland #opensuse Installationen, bei keiner bekomme ich es zum Laufen. Scheinbar ist es nicht ordentlich paketiert. :-/

Sehr cool! Gerade auf #distrowatch gelesen, daß das neue #siduction #btrfs in das Bootmenü integriert, wenn man sich dafür entscheidet.
Das von Suse entwickelte #snapper Tool hat bei deren Tests leider nicht funktioniert.
Aber so sollte es sein: Rolling Release + Snapshots

I have this fella running with #siduction. Everything worked out of the box.

Tip. Exchange the HDD for an SSD in old devices uns the real fun never ends.

For example, I use #siduction among other distros (pure Debian Sid). There, appimage and flatpak sometimes come handy for my usecase. In particular, they integrate quite well in #KDE.

Wenn man aus der Spielwiese der Programmierer raus will, muss man sich nach Distributionen die von Firmen gefördert und gar selbst gewartet werden umschauen. Beispiele wären hier #pop_os oder #tuxedo .
Nicht weniger stabil wären noch #MXLinux, meistens :-) #siduction etc.
Linux Mint hat sich vor Jahren nicht nur die Nutzerdaten klauen lassen, seitdem bin ich dort raus, meine waren damals dabei....
