i'm trying to be more and more conscious of where the things i'm using are made. in other words, i'm trying to use less and less usa based products.

like i'm using #duckduckgo and that's us based and the results are quite frankly hit or miss. the best search engine i've ever tried is by far #kagi. i had to pay for it and i tried it when it was still in early access, but it was great. but their ai stuff and the fact that there was some drama with the founder a while back shook my trust and they're us based. i do kinda miss it.

now i am using #startpage which uses a google based result which is meh but they are not a us based company. but they are still dependent on one. i'm thinking about trying out #qwant again. i don't know how they are privacy-wise for a search engine, they are european, which i trust a lot more and they are trying to have their own indexing.

there are great services out there that are european based like #mullvad vpn is great, #cryptee is amazing, but search engines are complicated...

I recently switched to an #iPhone from an #android and so far the experience has been really great. The only thing I dislike is some PWAs being really shitty and some sites straight up not offering them. For example #Pinterest and YouTube don’t offer one. And the #Letterboxd #PWA doesn’t have back button for some reason? #Cryptee , X and #mastodon PWAs are nice though.

@hypha i personally use #cryptee , an #opensource online cloud, its #private, #secure, and #encrypted.
only avalible as a web app, but can work on browser on mobile and desktop

but if you want something that is local, #onlyoffice is decent too, also being open source, but desktop only.

but if you don't too much about opensource for something substanal, #obsidian is a good choice when you know the tooling, its amazing to organize ideas and i am still personally looking for a #foss alternative for it.

another linux flatpak only software is #Folio its neatly organized and can organize stuff into folders(1 layer deep last time i checked)

i personally use a mix of #helix for #offlinewriting and cryptee when i have a somewhat stable internet

• La crittografia end-to-end è fondamentale per i diritti umani, un articolo di Wired postato da skariko. Un rapporto commissionato da Meta sottolinea il ruolo della tecnologia per la tutela della privacy. Tuttavia va fatto presente che il modo in cui viene implementata sulle applicazioni di Meta (WhatsApp, Instagram e Facebook) è purtroppo solo teorica: senza audit esterni indipendenti la crittografia end-to-end è e rimane solamente una cosa scritta sulla carta.

Alla fine dei conti, in sostanza, è venuto fuori che i suoi risultati dipendono esclusivamente da Bing e solo in caso di rimozione da Bing (e probabile successivo rumore mediatico di contorno) vengono in qualche modo parzialmente ripristinati da loro.

• Brave lancia De-AMP per contrastare AMP di Google perché dannoso per la privacy degli utenti. Il browser Brave ha lanciato la deAMPizzazione. Attualmente presente solo nelle versioni Nightly e Beta, dovrebbe a breve arrivare attiva di default anche nella versione standard dalla versione 1.38. In automatico verranno quindi reindirizzati i link AMP di Google su link normali.

• Per i giudici inglesi Julian Assange può essere estradato negli Stati Uniti. Questa notizia e tutto il silenzio che c’è stato intorno purtroppo si commenta da sola. • «Il web scraping è legale»: la sentenza USA sui dati pubblici su internet che fa discutere, un articolo di Giornalettismo postato da skariko. Si discute del web scraping, ovvero del poter prendere dati a strascico sul web, metodo utilizzato da ricercatori ma anche da società come Clearview AI.

• Le Alternative ricompare su Bing e, di conseguenza, su DuckDuckGo un articolo di Giornalettismo postato da skariko. La nostra piccola Odissea sembra lietamente terminata. Per chi non lo sapesse siamo stati oscurati da Bing e quindi a cascata da DuckDuckGo e Qwant. Dopo tre settimane siamo ricomparsi su Bing, e di conseguenza anche su DuckDuckGo e Qwant.

• In Europa arriva il pulsante “rifiuta tutti” per i cookies su Google. Dopo l’ennesima multa ((Google hit with 150 mln euro French fine for cookie breaches)) Google ha deciso che in Europa cambierà il pulsante per l’accettazione dei cookie: si potranno rifiutare tutti con un click.
