Und bieten jetzt unseren Stieglitzen Nahrung; an der Futtersäule können die sich nicht gegen Sperlinge und Grünfinken durchsetzen. Meisen suchen die Samenstände auch oft nach Spinnen und anderen Arthropoden ab.

Das Zentrum des Bildes nimmt der leicht nach links geneigte dunkelbraune Samenstand einer Wilden Karde ein. Er ist ungefähr ovoid mit zahlreichen nach außen gerichteten Stacheln. Die dünnen Tragblätter stehen vom Grund des Samenstandes sternförmig und leicht nach oben gebogen ab. Der mit zahlreichen Stacheln besetzte Stengel verläuft zum unteren Bildrand. Rechts oben auf dem Samenstand sitzt ein ausgewachsener Stieglitz. Er ist frontal fotografiert und blickt direkt in die Kamera. Sein Gesicht ist kräftig rot, sein spitz zulaufender Schnabel elfenbeinfarben, der Scheitel und die am Rand des roten Bereichs sitzenden Augen schwarz. Der Körper ist hellbraun und weiß. Im Hintergrund sind verschwommen zwei weitere Kardensamenstände und ein Gewirr aus Ästen zu sehen.

Been a particularly chaotic couple of weeks at work so just spent the afternoon doing some therapeutic #gardening on the #CommunityAllotment Potted up lots of wildflowers that had self seeded mostly #foxglove #teasel #lungwort #yarrow and also potted up some #jostaberry cuttings that had rooted well. Most will be given away through our #CommunityFridge but some of the flowers are going to our local museum #TheFolly who are creating a medicinal garden 🌱😀❤️
