Seems like you can get a roughly 2% efficiency improvement with 4:2:0 decoder output just with smarter post-processing for chroma. Pretty neat!

Now all of our photos and videos are processed, I made Immich transcode them again with AV1 software encoder and now they all look great!
Also worth noting that this only happens with videos from pixel 10 pro fold….. HDR videos from iPhone and other devices are fine.
Was anyone aware that OBS now offers "Enhanced Broadcasting" aka Multritrack Video? This offloads video transcoding to the person that is streaming their content and off of the servers themselves.
This is the single biggest cost of hosting a livestreaming server. If users are willing to use what's in their system we can make the bar to entry incredibly low.

Ah the Immich transcoding has a bug where the tone mapping is broken - transcoded HEVC video thumbnails are very dark with NVENC. Not sure if it happens with other encoders. I’d love to use av1 but my old hardware doesn’t support that…

The voice of experience makes me suspect that you're going to in the end find that some clandestine temporary file size limit is kicking in, somewhere.
LIke (for one example) how in this issue the error message talks about the file size, but it's actually the pixel count during transcoding that is the limit and the error message is misleading.

Or it could be a resource limit or control group setting, or a temporary filesystem cap.
Diagnosis is always the tricky part. I predict lots of logging being created and turned on, in your future. (-:

Why do so many people assume #transcoding is needed when #selfhosting media servers like #plex or #jellyfin ? I've seen it assumed many times: "I need a good CPU for Plex transcoding"
Like it's your own media, you can copy it anywhere you want, batch transcode it asynchronously for latter, or transfer it to the device itself.
Transcoding is so computationally expensive. Without that requirement you can host a media server on (almost) a potato. It's just transferring files

Looking for a dedicated GPU for #transcoding purposes turned out to be the worst rabbit hole.🙈
So, I'm using a AMD Ryzen 4600G in my homelab featuring #ProxmoxVE. The hardware transcoding capabilities of AMD hardware is very much behind Nvidia and #Intel, even though it isn't half as bad as expected. Anyway, the best transcoding hardware (best quality at same size/profile) are Intel devices featuring #QuickSync. Setting up another dedicated transcoding device (featuing a low power Intel APU such as the #N100) device doesn't seem to make much sense for me. There are several Intel Arc GPUs on the market and they all have pretty much the same transcoding capabilities, so I'd like to get the Intel GPU featuring the lowest power draw, especially when idling.
