Latest thing that has kept me entertained: setting up a #Windows11 #IoT #LTSC on a #VM on #Fedora, using #KVM and #virt_manager . It feels a little faster than my #Tiny10 install, and best of all: none of the bloat! :aw_yeah:
Now I need to learn how to configure the GPU passthrough using my laptop's dGPU (#Nvidia, sadly). Any recommendations for a guide or tutorial, people of #Mastodon?

I spent some of my weekend finishing up preparing my two #Thinkpad #W500 “mobile workstations” to sell. While my time on the #pro-leisure-circuit has been great digging into the #IBM and #Lenovo Thinkpad appreciation cult, I do not need all these #laptops and could use some spending money for other projects.
The one #W500 4061-B13 is running #Windows10 #x86 Enterprise #LTSC (Long-Term Servicing Channel), and the other is a W500 4062-4FU for parts/upgrades, along with 6 spare batteries. Between the two W500’s, there is a nice ThinkPad here. Hopefully this bundle will be enticing for someone.

Apple Devices – замена iTunes. Как заставить работать на Windows 10 LTSC
Сегодня я расскажу о стороннем приложении Apple Devices, но лишь потому, что оно проверяет версию ОС Windows и категорически не устанавливается в Windows 10 LTSC или IoT LTSC. Ну и, конечно, расскажу, как его победить. Данная статься не пропагандирует ни техники или продуктов Apple, ни замену устаревшего комбайна iTunes отдельными приложениями Apple, ни (упаси бог мне такое вам предлагать) использование продуктов Apple на Windows вместо Mac. Однако… Еще полгода назад на Windows, наконец, появились приложения Apple Devices (Устройства Apple), Apple Music и Apple TV. На Mac они давно заменили мультимедиа комбайн iTunes, который стал неповоротлив, а для Windows несколько припозднились. Без комментариев. Причем, Apple выпуская новые приложения установила крайне непонятное требование, сборка ОС не ниже чем 19045 (в терминологии Microsoft, это Windows 10 22H2, смотри мою статью Все о версиях Windows 10 и как максимально продлить поддержку своей ОС / Хабр (habr.com) ). Что крайне печально, так то, что версия долгосрочной ветви обслуживания Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC и Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC максимально имеют версию 19044 (21H2) и, соответственно, установка на них приложения Apple Devices заблокирована. Рассмотрим же, как это починить. Кстати, этот же метод позволяет ставить современный Adobe Photoshop на LTSC издания , – он также проверяет именно версию ОС. Я уже рассказывал в упомянутой выше статье, что те, кто хотят оставаться на Windows 10, наверняка должны задуматься именно об издании IoT Enterprise LTSC, так как оно одно будет поддерживаться и получать обновления аж до 13.01.2032 . Обычные Профессиональные и Корпоративные издания «стухнут» уже через год – до 12.01.2025 , а Enterprise LTSC будет получать свои обновления до 12.01.2027 . Стало быть, разумный пользователь Windows 10 перешел на издание IoT Enterprise LTSC: кстати, и для Windows 11 это наилучшее издание, всем рекомендую почитать статью Windows 11 24H2 IoT Enterprise LTSC – что за зверь, и чем он хорош? / Хабр (habr.com) . A wipe & reinstall with a copy of #iot #ltsc with the oem auto-activation worked like a charm.
Now using #ctt to install the majority of applications and then rip out the spyware.
I was shocked to find out, that there is actually still a usable #Windows out there... The Enterprise #ltsc channel version.
It's significantly less bloated and way faster than #win10 and especially #Win11.
Will use that for my very few productivity processes which are painstakingly hard – and instable – to port to linux...probably as a WoL #rdp machine.

¿Qué es Office LTSC?
Office LTSC es un paquete especial que ofrece todas las características que Microsoft ha añadido a Office hasta el año en curso. Una vez instalado, no cambia ni se actualiza, y ni siquiera requiere conexión a Internet para funcionar. Es una excelente opción para empresas sensibles, como hospitales, que necesitan las herramientas de Office sin preocuparse por actualizaciones que puedan causar problemas o por ciberataques que aprovechen la conexión a Internet para robar datos.
Microsoft 365 vs. Office LTSC
En su anuncio, Microsoft defiende el uso de Microsoft 365, destacando funciones como Copilot, que «desbloquea el poder transformador de la IA», y la posibilidad de desconectarse de 365 hasta seis meses antes de volver a conectarse.
Sin embargo, para quienes prefieren Office LTSC, la espera no será larga. Microsoft indica que «los clientes comerciales y gubernamentales con licencia por volumen» ya pueden adquirirlo, y Office LTSC 2024 estará «disponible de forma general para todos los clientes» el 1 de octubre. Las empresas que utilicen Office LTSC 2024 tendrán cinco años de soporte general y de seguridad bajo la política de ciclo de vida fijo.
Disponibilidad para consumidores
Microsoft compartirá más información sobre cómo obtener una versión sin suscripción de Office 2024 para consumidores «en las próximas semanas». Mientras tanto, quienes no puedan esperar pueden probar Office 2024 ahora mismo.

And don't even get me started on the fact that #Windows10, #Windows11 and "#WindowsServer" literally cannot be cnfigured under any circumstances to comply with #GDPR, #BDSG & #PCIDSS nor that #Microsoft is going to provide actual #support and proper verification options for that.
Compared to even @ubuntu / #Canonical #UbuntuLTS where I can easily get that compliance for double the time and less cost than licensing #Windows10Enterprise #LTSC!

The other day, #Windows10 told me that my files MUST be backed up in the #Microsoft Cloud. My only options where "Do it now" or "Remind me in 3 days"
I turned off the computer and formatted the SSD. I shrunk the #Windows partition to only 256 GB, installed #LTSC, and let #Linux take over the rest of the System.
The Windows partition is now only used for #VR gaming, because the #Oculus software only works on Windows.
Uh oh. It been like this for 15 minutes now... I think I broke it. I guess it's time to reinstall #Windows once again soon. Oh well, this might be a good opportunity to try out an #LTSC build. *sigh*
