Ich freue mich auf meinen #TuxedoComputer und bereite mich schon heimlich auf's #Zocken unter #Linux vor und teste die #Firefox Erweiterung " #ProtonDB for #Steam ". So sehe ich im Steam Store direkt die ProtonDB-Wertung. Herrlich. Sonst noch jemand hier im Fediverse unter LInux am Zocken?#Freudeherrscht @tuxedocomputers

I installed #PlantsVsZombies again, while browsing the games I've completed. I wanted to see how well it ran on #Linux through #Steam Proton. It 'does' function out of the box, but it's not the smoothest experience. Hopping over to #ProtonDB, I found the reason why the framerate tanks during the scene transitions. After a little tinkering, it ran smooth as butter. This is a 'Linux' only issue, from my understanding. I finished it in one sitting again. It's still a good brain teaser. 🙃

Actual state: Main screen is loading, short after that, when starting a "New Game", the loading screen freeze.
Proton Experimental is suggested by most of #protondb user.
Will try to play around with the settings the next days.

out of pure personal necessity, I've decided to create something similar to #protondb but for my #win600, currently It only consists of a mastodon account @600db but when I get home I'll actually deploy the website and I'll also open source it for contribution

As a Friday treat to myself, after checking #protondb reports, I got me #avowed . So far the vertical exploration stand out to me. Story so far lots of setup and exposition. But what I find jarring is the jumpy camera during conversations, how it twitches from one character to another. Would have preferred a more static cutscenery one. But I can live with it.

I just contributed my first review to #ProtonDB because I had to fix two minor issues, including fixing a fix of someone else (with a little help from my programmer boyfriend).

One of my 2025 new year's resolutions is trying to move away from Windows 10 for gaming (as it's supposed to lose support later this year).

So far, I'm amazed at what already works, how many games in my library, especially the ones I cherish, are already natively supported on Linux, how many games just effortlessly run on Linux without native support and how much fun it can be to fix the ones that don't and sharing your findings with the community (similar vibe as contributing to OSM).

You're facing new compromises, that's for sure, but Windows had so many compromises and we learned to sail around them. And now the compromises just stack up so much, I'd rather re-learn a few things, become more independent and help other people, with even less technical knowledge than I have, to do the same.

The issue I have with this though (and its HOW it works, so that's just how it is), is that it only shows me the Proton badge for games I already purchased.

Generally, again for me, I will check #ProtonDB before buying a game...so its not all that helpful for me!
