#AccessibleTech

forget the word convenience even exists. "convenience" is just accessibility that you feel that you personally don't need and no two people's conveniences are the same (for example, due to my ADHD my calendar is not a convenience or a simple productivity tool, it is a critical accessibility tool -- if I don't have it, the routine of my life falls apart).

tell me why your ableist ass gets the option of cruise control but it's lazy if someone parks in a handicapped spot but is able to walk into the store.

Slots still available.

After a short break, I’m returning to accessibility training services.

I provide one-on-one training for blind and visually impaired users across multiple platforms. My teaching is practical and goal-driven: not just commands, but confidence, independence, and efficient workflows that carry into daily life, study, and work.

I cover:
iOS: VoiceOver gestures, rotor navigation, Braille displays, Safari, text editing, Mail and Calendars, Shortcuts, and making the most of iOS apps for productivity, communication, and entertainment.
macOS: VoiceOver from basics to advanced, Trackpad Commander, Safari and Mail, iWork and Microsoft Office, file management, Terminal, audio tools, and system upkeep.
Windows: NVDA and JAWS from beginner to advanced. Training includes Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, Zoom, web browsing, customizing screen readers, handling less accessible apps, and scripting basics.
Android: TalkBack gestures, the built-in Braille keyboard and Braille display support, text editing, app accessibility, privacy and security settings, and everyday phone and tablet use.
Linux: Orca and Speakup, console navigation, package management, distro setup, customizing desktops, and accessibility under Wayland.

Concrete goals I can help you achieve:
Set up a new phone, tablet, or computer
Send and manage email independently
Browse the web safely and efficiently
Work with documents, spreadsheets, and presentations
Manage files and cloud storage
Use social media accessibly
Work with Braille displays and keyboards
Install and configure accessible software across platforms
Troubleshoot accessibility issues and build reliable workflows
Make the most of AI in a useful, productive way
Grow from beginner skills to advanced, efficient daily use

I bring years of lived experience as a blind user of these systems. I teach not only what manuals say, but the real-world shortcuts, workarounds, and problem-solving skills that make technology practical and enjoyable.

Our CEO Troy Otillio is on the ground in São Paulo this week for the World Blindness Summit & WBU General Assembly. The theme says it all: “A fragile world, an unbreakable movement—together towards inclusion.” 🌎✈️

The event spans a Technical-Scientific Congress, an Assistive Technology Fair, Poster Exhibitions, and the WBU General Assembly, with multilingual access and on-site accessibility measures throughout. As a leader in accessible technology solutions, we’ll be working to connect with key organizations and agencies advocating for accessibility, strengthen global access and partnerships, and help shape perspectives on what is possible in assistive technology today.

Thank you to everyone who answered my Mac word processor questions, and to the tech wiz WhatsApp group for being so helpful. I’ve decided on Pages. It is accessible, easy to use, and works well with my Word documents. Motivation was hard today. I am still sick with this sinus infection that refuses to let go. Lack of sleep and feeling unwell have made it tough. #Blind #VoiceOver #Mac #AccessibleTech #SinusInfection

Minor rant: I wish video platforms would stop conflating subtitles and closed captions.

For those unaware, closed captions are significantly more detailed than subtitles. While subtitles are merely a transcription of the dialogue, captions also include descriptions of audio cues, music, and other auditory elements.

Mr. Grieves thought Innosearch AI was just another Amazon alternative—until it completely changed how he shops.

“I originally thought this was just an Amazon thing but the more I use it, the more I like it…”

From frustrating sites to finding the exact product (not even on Amazon!), Innosearch made it easy.

Thanks, Mr. Grieves!

To the right of the phone is a white testimonial box with a 5-star user review from Mr. Grieves, labeled as an "Innosearch AI User," alongside a simple illustrated avatar. The review reads: “I originally thought this was just an Amazon thing but the more I use it, the more I like it. I was looking on some other website I'd never been on before for a product and then was filled with dread at the thought of having to battle the shopping system to get it ordered. So on a whim I just opened up innosearch and found the exact same product, which isn't available on Amazon. A few clicks later and it was ordered.” At the bottom of the image is a red banner with the text “visit us at: innosearch.ai” inside a search bar graphic.

I'm curious to hear what others are #SelfHosting! Here's my current setup:

Hardware & OS

Infrastructure & Networking

Security & Monitoring

Authentication & Identity Management

  • Authelia (Docker): Just set this up for two-factor authentication and single sign-on. Seems to be working well so far!
  • LLDAP (Docker): Lightweight LDAP server for managing authentication. Also seems to be working pretty well!
    #AuthenticationTools #IdentityManagement

Productivity & Personal Tools

Notifications & Development Workflow

  • Notifications via: #Ntfy (Docker) and Zoho's ZeptoMail (#Zoho)
  • Development Environment: Mostly using VSCode connected to my server via Remote-SSH extension. #VSCodeRemote

Accessibility Focus ♿️🖥️

Accessibility heavily influences my choices—I use a screen reader full-time (#ScreenReader), so I prioritize services usable without sight (#InclusiveDesign#DigitalAccessibility). Always open to discussing accessibility experiences or recommendations!

I've also experimented with:

  • Ollama (#Ollama): Not enough RAM on my Pi.
  • Habit trackers like Beaver Habit Tracker (#HabitTracking): Accessibility issues made it unusable for me.

I don't really have a media collection, so no Plex or Jellyfin here (#MediaServer)—but I'm always open to suggestions! I've gotten a bit addicted to exploring new self-hosted services! 😄

What's your setup like? Any cool services you'd recommend I try?
