@early_riser I use #unifi for #switching and #wifi. I enjoy those products. I don't like their #NAS and #routing options.

I ran #pfsense for over a decade, but since the 2.8 release you can't do an offline install. So I switched to #opnsense.

#rstats osrm.backend 0.2 is out.

I fixed a bug that might have caused lockup if you tried to calculate too large origin-destination matrices. Should work just fine now! (though there is a limit of course, as it works over REST API, but parallel requests are your friend).

My FTTC provider (Fastweb) is having some routing problems, so reaching the BSD Cafe is...slow.

One small change in my router settings and switching to the other provider.

Well, the problem is not gone. I went down the rabbit hole and set up a ping exporter with Prometheus and Grafana (nice to have these already set up in my homelab).

And it looks weird. Ping times fluctuate between 25ms and 200ms, averaging around 100ms. Curious how this will look like over a few days, would not surprise if this was some sort of routing bottleneck during daytime busy hours.

Ping time graph of the last 6 hours. The IPs for Cloudflare DNS and ChatGPT start from 25ms in the morning and suddenly climb to 100ms around 10:30 CET and then keep fluctuating between 25ms and 200ms.

Some other hosts like Google DNS are steady 10ms.

I guess I should talk to my ISP (Telekom Hungary) but I'd be curious if anyone has a clue. I've collected a bunch of traces with the excellent `asn` tool: https://gist.github.com/salomvary/6d200a7260dc3926430b8e3797e98423

When using a different uplink (Yettel Hungary) everything seems fine.

I've spent the last hour trying to figure out why my internet is slow.

Seems like my local network/devices are fine and I managed to narrow the problem down to host in Cloudflare's network (which is half of the internet nowadays).

Instead of the healthy ping times of a few dozen ms, I'm getting almost 300ms ping times and over 50% packet loss.
