A quotation from Judith Martin

Eating grapes with a knife and fork is not what one would call refined. It is what one would call ludicrous.

Judith Martin (b. 1938) American author, journalist, etiquette expert [a.k.a. Miss Manners]
“Miss Manners,” syndicated column (1993-03-07)

A quotation from Joseph Addison

I consider an human soul without education like marble in the quarry, which shews none of its inherent beauties till the skill of the polisher fetches out the colours, makes the surface shine, and discovers every ornamental cloud, spot and vein that runs through the body of it.

Joseph Addison (1672-1719) English essayist, poet, statesman
Essay (1711-11-06), The Spectator, No. 215

Refine before you expand.

I Don’t Live for Progress. I Live for Precision.
I don’t grow just to move. I move to refine.

I’m not faster than I used to be. I’m cleaner. Calmer. Sharper. That’s my progress. And it’s sustainable.

I’m Not in a Rush to Become. I’m Here to Refine.
Growth isn’t about size. It’s about density.

Everyone wants to be more. I want to be sharper. Clearer. Heavier. I’d rather be one sentence that cuts through — than a thousand that leave no trace.

Oh great, has discovered a fancy way to generate by "refining noise" instead of using those boring old transformers. đŸ€–âœš Apparently, this means they can now create faster and with more precision. Let's all pretend we're not just watching play a game of Mad Libs. 🎉🔍

A quotation from Chamfort

He who tries to make his happiness depend too much on his reason, who holds it up for examination, who quibbles, as it were, with his delights, and admits no indelicate pleasures, ends by having none at all. He is a man who cards the wool of his mattress until nothing is left, and he ends by sleeping on the boards.

Nicolas Chamfort (1741-1794) French writer, epigrammist (b. Nicolas-Sébastien Roch)
Products of Perfected Civilization [Produits de la Civilisation PerfectionĂ©e], Part 1 “Maxims and Thoughts [Maximes et PensĂ©es],” ch. 2, ¶ 179 (1795) [tr. Merwin (1969)]

@ReadingFaithfully_org What a wonderful #simile ! I especially like that #refinement or #purification is a clearly implied possibility without direct mention that that relies on the hearers' (or now more likely, readers') knowledge about gold so that they have to do the rest of the work themselves (and are thereby more likely to remember).

Well here's a fun result I got with by playing with

I was wondering if I can rewrite this `( [a], [(a,b)] )` in a nicer equivalent way. I suspected I could factor out all the `[a]`s somehow.

So ofc I write `(1 + a + a^2 + ...) * (1 + ab + (ab)^2 + ...)` and with a blind eye on converge I re-organize the expression into one list.

I got `(1 + a + (1+b)*a^2 + (1+b+b^2)*a^3 + ...)`.

Which is equivalent to this type: `{(x: [a], y: [b]) | len(y) < len(x) }`
