Oof. Upgraded #ly this week and had a manual intervention required step that wasn't displayed anywhere during normal upgrade steps. Having to review their CodeBerg repo for breaking changes seems super user unfriendly. It wasn't the default greeter during my setup, so they get a slight pass, but it being an option on #archinstall is a bit of a faux pas. It's s been roughly 20 years since I've used #archlinux, and when it came time to finally distro hop away from void in my laptop (not my main machine anymore) I decided to give Arch in 2025 a try. I'll admit, I was influenced heavily by #quickshell #caelestiashell.

Holy shit is arch easy to install these days with the #archinstall script! Installing Caelestia-shell was also just another instill script. I was up and running within about 10-15 minutes.
It's pretty neat. Beautiful even. A small learning curve because I'd never used #hyperland before, but not that difficult. However, the arch philosophy or the "arch way" still remains the same. The system still requires the user to babysit config files and to read every change log etc. The likelihood that my system will break one-day with a `sudo pacman -Rns $(pacman -Qtdq)` is looming.
My main system these days is trusty Fedora Workstation on my desktop PC. I actually like gnome. If I'm going to use a fully integrated desktop environment it's going to be gnome. I'm tempted to jump ship now before I get to deep into arch. I don't need bleeding edge stuff anymore. And these days, I actually prefer flatpaks anyway. I must be getting old and boring.

Bought a new 1TB SSD and installed a fresh #ArchLinux with #archinstall. Such a painless process and I got a "just works" Arch setup. Hope I can get more games working now when I have a more standard setup with KDE instead of my old #Wayland disaster.

Um es vorweg zunehmen, ich installiere ja alle meine VMs mit einem eigenen ISO aus 2023.
Das 2025.07.01 benutze ich ja lediglich zu Test- und Demozwecken und zum Installieren des neuen NitroPC2 für eine Bekannte. Einfacher kann man ArchLinux z.B. als {Um|Neuein}steiger:In ja nicht installieren, inkl. LUKS, btrfs, snapper & co.
Also Leute herunterladen und ausprobieren. Worauf wartet ihr noch? go go go!
@ntd_quiet Yes, me2 , I've booted #archlinux and then I used #archinstall. Everything works fine and as expected.
Zweimal bekam #archinstall seine Chance. Zweimal wartete ich über 5 Min. bis die Mirror-Listen geladen, über 10 Min. bis die keyrings abgeglichen waren, um dann beide Male über 700 MB an Daten herunterzuladen. Nur um am Ende einen Fehler präsentiert zu bekommen, den ich bei dunkelroter Schrift auf schwarzem Hintergrund nicht entziffern kann. Das war's für #ArchLinux 😤 🤯 ☠️
Im freien WLAN der Bücherei werde ich mir morgen #AntiX herunterladen. Mein Datenvolumen wurde ja jetzt unnötig dezimiert. Somit zurück zu #Debian.
