@kde any idea as to when we're likely to see #KDELinux ready for general testing?

@inaction_figure @pdq A couple of years ago iirc i created a #Kinoite VM in my #ArchLinux host, just to muck about with & keep an eye out. In it i created an #Arch #Distrobox, in which i installed #yay, with which i installed some #AUR pkgs. All that works fine, but there are papercuts i dislike & have not been able to overcome. One such is that so far i do not know how to have any such DB apps autostart with Kinoite itself.

Similarly, in Kinoite i've installed various #flatpak apps, one being #Yakuake. I've never managed to get it to obey my setting to show its icon in the System Tray, like is easily done in non-immutable Plasma distros.

Papercuts like these dissuade me from being able to think of #Kinoite, #Kalpa, #kdeLinux et al as serious future replacement Host distros on my hardware. However, i approach these matters as an unskilled hobbyist, not someone with deep Linux knowledge, so would appreciate relevant advice from those who actually know such stuff.

Can you please tell me exactly which raw ISO version you downloaded then installed?

I ask because over recent months i have had a rotten time trying to get #kdeLinux #kdeOS working in one of my #QEMU #KVM VMs. Eg:

kdeos_202409101455.raw repeatedly threw errors & aborted during installation
kdeos_202409201149.raw ostensibly installed ok but crashed to emergency shell at boot
kdeos_202411050109.raw installed ok, runs ok, but cannot be updated as sudo updatectl update fails with msg that updatectl is not recognised.

So when i saw in your video that not only did your version install & run, but also can update, given today's latest failures [the last two dot points above] i thought the best option now might be for me to select the same image that you downloaded. 🤷‍♀️

It works well, and I like image based OSes, so I think I’ll stick around and hack on it while it’s still in its infancy.

KDE is both well known and established software developing community in Linux.

Mainstream works of KDE include Plasma (desktop environment) - also Valve's choice for Desktop Mode on Steam Deck.
